Through its official channels, Deportes Antofagasta ruled out that part of the former Cobreloa cadets detained in the rape investigation make up their squadafter press reports this Friday.
“It has circulated in the national written and electronic media wrong information that it is our duty to clarify“, they began in a statement.
Of the nine former Loíno cadets detained, “it has been reported through a renowned national news portal that three of them would currently be on loanlinked to the Antofagasta Sports Club.
Given the journalistic version, issued by The Mercury, the “puma” squad expressed that “after various efforts the portal has edited its noteeliminating all references.” Meanwhile, regional media have rectified with new entries on their sites.
“Regarding the substance, we openly condemn the occurrence of events such as those that will be investigated, and any form of gender violence. We fully trust in the work of the institutions that must ensure the clarification of the facts, punishment of possible perpetrators and protection of the victims,” they added from Antofagasta, adding that they will maintain the focus on sports.
Previously, The regional prosecutor of Antofagasta, Juan Carlos Bekios, had indicated that the arrests were made in Calama, Osorno and Santiagowhich ruled out the version that included the “cougars.”
