(CNN Spanish) — Óscar Puente, Minister of Transport of Spain, https://twitter.com/lanacionmas/status/1786534893796602032?t=aVBalymJ1-JyRCI2BB-THw&s=08 to the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, of “ingesting substances”, and the Government of the South American country responded with harsh criticism of Pedro Sánchez.

Puente’s statements were made during the III School of Government organized by the PSOE. A video that was broadcast by Argentine media recorded the official’s statements against Milei.

“There are very bad people who, by being themselves, have reached the top,” Puente said, and then mentioned Donald Trump and the president of Argentina. “I have seen Milei on TV, and as I was hearing him, do you remember? I don’t know when he came out in what state and prior to ingesting or after ingesting what substances, but he came out to say something about , what he said, a few days before… I said: ‘It is impossible for him to win the elections (…) Today he has dug his grave! Well no,'” the minister said about Milei.

Given these statements, the Government of Argentina, through the Office of the President, issued https://twitter.com/OPRArgentina/status/1786527556893585709/photo/1in which he repudiates Puente’s sayings and then charges with criticism directed at Pedro Sánchez: “[Sánchez] He has more important problems to deal with, such as the corruption accusations leveled against his wife, an issue that even led him to consider resigning. For the good of the Kingdom of Spain, we hope that justice will act quickly to clarify such a corruption scandal that directly affects the stability of your Nation and, consequently, relations with our country.”

“We Argentines choose to change the model that brought us misery and decadence. The same model that the Spanish Socialist Workers Party applies in their country. We hope that the Spanish people will soon choose to live in freedom again,” the statement concludes.

On April 24, Sánchez announced that he would cancel his public agenda for a few days to reflect on whether he would continue to lead the Government, after a Madrid court opened a judicial investigation against his wife, Begoña Gómez, although he said that these accusations constituted “falsehoods” and “spurious information.”

Days later, and after demonstrations in his support, Sánchez announced that he had decided to continue “with more strength” at the head of the Government.

What the Government of Spain said about Argentina’s statement

The response from the Government of Spain came hours later through an official statement in which it expressed its deep rejection of “the unfounded terms of the statement issued by the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic, which do not correspond to the relations of two brother countries and peoples”.

“The Government and the Spanish people will continue to maintain and strengthen their fraternal ties and their relations of friendship and collaboration with the Argentine people, a will shared by all of Spanish society,” says the brief official report.
