It is important that together we can work in this COP and that all citizens feel like they are participating in this space. “Together we are going to work for the COP of the people,” stated the Minister of Environment.

Likewise, he called for awareness about environmental justice and emphasized that all actions must contribute to Peace with Nature, one of the pillars of COP16 to address climate change, decarbonization and the restoration of ecosystems.

“It is time to do environmental justice, listen to citizens and build together. The National Government will make three pre-cops (Peasant, indigenous and Afro), where we will listen to the communities and we will take all those concerns to the COP, so that they can be addressed and resolved by the participants.”

The estimated investment for COP16 is around $120 billion pesos, of which 50% has already been disbursed by the Colombian Foreign Ministry; the rest will be paid soon. The minister urged people to avoid speculation about the budget and the execution of the resources allocated for this important event.

For their part, the mayors thanked the minister for her presence and presentation during the assembly, committing to responsibly assume the leadership of one of the most important events that has taken place in the country in recent years.

“This event unites us as a country and we accept the invitation of Minister Susana Muhamad, we responsibly assume the active leadership of the COP, which we know brings great benefits to the country,” commented the mayor of the organizing city, Alejandro Eder.
