In navigation – Within the framework of carrying out combined training activities of opportunity, and with the objective of improving interoperability, units of the French National Navy and the Argentine Navy carried out an exercise (Passex) in the waters of the Argentine Sea.
The amphibious helicopter carrier ship “Tonnerre” and the La Fayette-class frigate “Guépratte” participated; the ARA destroyer “La Argentina” (DELA), the ARA icebreaker “Almirante Irízar” (RHAI) and a Beechcraft B-200 aircraft from the Maritime Naval Air Surveillance Squadron, which operated from the Punta Indio Naval Air Base.
French and Argentine naval units carried out interoperability exercises in Argentine waters.
The destroyer, which had set sail last Tuesday from the Puerto Belgrano Naval Base, carried out various internal role adjustments and training of the Unit during the navigation, such as simulated aircraft launch and recovery exercises; breakdown control and fire fighting. These activities allowed them to strengthen the esprit de corps of their crew members and gain greater security during maneuvers.

On the other hand, the RHAI, which was returning to its usual station after finishing the 2023/24 Summer Antarctic Campaign, carried out communications exercises with the French Units. At the same time, the B-200 aircraft carried out an identification flight of the participating ships and established a communications link with them.
Taking advantage of this opportunistic operational activity, three fourth-year cadets from the Naval Military School belonging to class No. 154 were on board the DELA, who were able to interact with the destroyer’s crew and focus on the navigation position, where they had a participation active.
Joint training activities were carried out in the Argentine Sea.
Finally, it should be noted that a total of 20 officers and non-commissioned officers belonging to the Sea Fleet and Marine Infantry are on board the ship “Tonnerre”, who will be trained in specific techniques of this type of ship, and will disembark in the city. from Ushuaia.
Ceremony on board
On the DELA flight deck, the ceremony was held in commemoration of the 42nd anniversary of the sinking of the ARA cruiser “General Belgrano”. It was chaired by the Commander of the Destroyer Division, Captain Leandro Nonide.
In it, a speech was made where the main milestones in the history of the Unit and its participation during the Malvinas War were reviewed. “On a day like today, 42 years later, destiny finds us sailing, and like our 1,093 comrades, carrying out orders from the naval service as our heroes of the ‘Belgrano’ did; there is no better tribute than following in their wake of dedication and dedication for the Homeland. Take his example and have him as a guide every time we falter or feel that we are about to lose our spirit,” said the ceremonial officer.
