Camagüey, May 4.- The Maternal and Child Care programs (PAMI) and the follow-up program for patients with diabetic foot ulcers receive priority treatment as part of the work of the Public Health sector in this province, from medical offices, polyclinics and even hospitals as a secondary level.
Direct care for women from the preconception stage, taking into account their age and the risks at certain moments of pregnancy, constitutes the premise of this work based on the well-being of mothers and their children.
Through family planning consultations, for example, conditions such as asthma and diabetes are identified, some of the most frequent morbidities, which does not deny the possibility of getting pregnant, but rather the conditions must be met and the optimal moment must be waited. to be able to achieve it.
Dr. Miriam Sotomayor Cedeño, director of Medical Assistance and Medicines in the territory, explained that this is a broad and intersectoral program, since Health cannot individually achieve all the proposed objectives, hence the involvement of different organizations such as Education , the Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Association of Small Farmers, the sports sector and the Government.
Daily monitoring takes into account admission to maternal homes or existing hospitalization wards in polyclinics or municipal hospitals, which are responsible for supervising women until the end of pregnancy.
The same happens with children who are born with very low weight, to whom differentiated care is provided, and many times they must remain in the health institution until almost two months of age, when they regain their weight or some of the issues are resolved. the manifestations detected after delivery.
The specialist highlighted that the above constitutes a reaffirmation of the importance that the State and the Government recognize in this sphere, which does not escape the complex situation of the country, caused largely by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the government of the States. United against Cuba.
On the other hand, the territory carries out the Care Program for patients with diabetic foot ulcers, which pursues the screening of diabetic people or people at risk of suffering from an ulcer, tasks in which Camagüey is among the most advanced at the national level. .
Most people feel afraid and do not go to the doctor, do not seek treatment and end up with an amputation, said the doctor, emphasizing the need for timely diagnosis and treatment.
Endocrinologists and angiologists, as well as other specialists, participate in this last program; and likewise the consultations range from the primary to the secondary level of Health, he specified.
The Provincial Directorate of Public Health in Camagüey works to conduct these and other dissimilar programs that make up its corporate purpose, with the strength of having a solid system that extends from the family doctor’s and nurse’s offices, the polyclinics and the municipal directorates of the sector, through strict monitoring of all medical care indicators in the region.
