The strong confrontation that has been recorded for three days between Army troops and members of the ‘Carlos Patiño’ structure of the self-proclaimed ECentral Mayor state of the FARC dissidents in the rural area of AlgeriaCauca, leaves a balance of three soldiers dead.

The smurdered professional soldiers were: Jorge David Fuentes, native of Valledupar, César; Javier Sosa Ballesteros, from La Mesa, Cundinamarca, and Camilo Andrés Molina, from Galeras, Sucre.
In addition, they reported that three uniformed officers were injured. “who are stable and will be evacuated from the area to receive specialized medical care.”
The soldiers were attacked by about 150 members of the dissident group.

According to the Army, lThe initial reports indicate that as part of the offensive actions in favor of the security and well-being of the civilian population, “the capture in flagrante delicto of 5 individuals belonging to to that illegal structure, who were found with their weapons and quartermaster material.”
However, The troops executed a defensive maneuver and began to repel the attack, taking position in the place where they were.
“In order to secure the area and the integrity of the wounded personnel, the troops used techniques, tactics and procedures to safeguard their lives and position themselves in a safe place, in accordance with military doctrine and the adverse weather conditions of the area,” noted the institution.

The commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Fernan Giraldo Bonilla, is arriving in Popayán “to personally verify the situation and lead the counteroffensive and the strengthening of the security device in that area of the south of the department of Cauca.”
