Colombia is already beginning to warm up the atmosphere for the U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be played from August 31 to September 16. The team led by Carlos Paniagua is excited to have a good performance in this tournament.
The World Cup will be played at the Pascual Guerrero stadiums in Cali; El Campín y Techo, from Bogotá, and Atanasio Girardot, from Medellín. Colombia is already set as the seed in group A, for the draw that will take place on June 5.
That team is competing in the South American U-20, although it no longer has a chance of becoming champion: Brazil secured the continental crown on Thursday, beating Venezuela 2-0 and reaching 12 points.
Now, Colombia will look for second place in the South American Championship, for which they must defeat Paraguay this Sunday. That match will be played in Guayaquil, starting at 4 in the afternoon.
Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina have already secured their presence in the World Cup. Venezuela, fifth with three points, and Peru, last with one point, aspire to the last place.
The Venezuelans will play against Argentina and a draw practically ensures their qualification, as it would force Peru to beat Brazil by 11 or more goals. If they lose and Peru wins, the place will be for this last team.
Fifa defined that this World Cup will be the first in the category with 24 participating teams. Europe and South America are the ones that will have the most representatives, five (in the case of Conmebol, Colombia’s quota as the organizing country is included. Concacaf, Asia and Africa will have four teams each and Oceania, two.
