Although La Libertad Avanza signed up to compete in the municipal election of Río Cuarto, which will be held on June 23, Santiago Caputo’s strategy prevailed over that of “Lule” Menem, and the libertarians will not expose Javier Milei to defeat six months after taking office and in the midst of escalating poverty.

The original plan, advanced by LPO, was to promote businessman and rally racer Gastón González. The move was coordinated by the head of the LLA bench in Deputies, Gabriel Bornoroni, and had the approval of “Lule.” However, he clashed with Caputo’s analysis, given what seemed like a certain defeat for a libertarian candidate. A local survey indicates that Milei has a 58% positive image. In the runoff, the libertarian achieved 71%.

The shield against defeat includes the La Libertad Avanza seal: since it was registered to compete, “no one will be able to use the name in this election.” “No one” has a first and last name: Agustín Spaccesi, the libertarian provincial legislator, but who was relegated from LLA, despite the fact that he was one of the first promoters of Milei in Córdoba. Spaccesi used the LLA brand in his campaign for governor. Now, Bornoroni and Menem put a stop to the use of the seal.

The electoral scenario in Río Cuarto seems completely open: the wayward Peronist Adriana Nazario leads the polls. She has an agreement with Oscar Zago’s MID, which in Córdoba has terminals with Domingo Carbonetti, the historical representative of José Manuel de la Sota. A recent photo of Carbonetti, Olga Riutor and Jorge “el Zurdo” Montoya, sharing a meal, raised alarm bells in El Panal, the headquarters of the provincial government.

Milei challenges Llaryora in Río Cuarto and puts his own candidate to play

For Llaryora, a victory for Nazario would be terrible news: not only because of the defeat of his candidate, Guillermo de Rivas, but because a group would be launched to carry the wounded left by the construction of the “Cordoban party”, it is an alliance complex with radicals and former opponents with which Llaryora intends to lead the coming years.

“A victory for Nazario would be a great complication; we are going to do the ‘Gran Passerini’,” a Llaryorist legislator reveals to LPO. He refers to the campaign operation deployed to turn around the election in the city of Córdoba, where Daniel Passerini won by a good advantage over Rodrigo de Loredo, who led the polls until the last days of the campaign.

José Luis Espert and Gabriel Bornoroni.

Finally, radicalism, allied with the Civic Front but without the PRO, which will bring its own candidates, is excited about going through the middle of the Peronist bloodletting. The candidate is Gonzalo “el Pampa” Parodi, who responds to Emiliano Yacobitti. For now, the local alliance with De Loredo does not seem hacked, but it depends on how the head of the radical bench in Deputies continues to move.

In principle, Parodi will have as his first candidate for councilor the doctor Gabriel Abrile, the best-known radical and with the best image in Río Cuarto, whom Parodi, it is suspected that with surreptitious help from the PJ, defeated internally. The alliance of the two sectors is bad news for the ruling party.

Llaryora clings to the polls: De Rivas, the candidate promoted by Juan Manuel Llamosas, the outgoing mayor, is not leading, but is on the rise. The central data is another: surveys maintain that 62 percent of Rio Cuartenses want a change in the management of the city. However, it is not clear who expresses this change: Nazario or Parodi. In llaryorismo, they cling to the 25% that is committed to continuity.
