The inhabitants of the La Honda and Sarcitos villages (La Puentecita sector), in the Montebello municipality, in the Southwest Antioquiathrough a torrential avenue that appeared this Saturday morning, after the strong rains that have not given a truce since Friday afternoon and that intensified at night and early in the morning.

A damming generated the torrential avenue, whose images circulate on social networks, which caused damage to at least 30 homes, whose families lost everything, belongings, animals and any productive project. The mayor of Montebello, Óscar Ernesto Cuervo, explained that the affected houses are those of the La Puentecita hamlet, but, fortunately, people were able to be evacuated.

However, people are at the top of the mountain in that sector, waiting for the authorities to gain access to get them out of there. The situation is complex, because although the place is about 15 minutes from the town center, there are road problems that prevent it from arriving by land.

A landslide caused the closure of the Medellín-La Pintada road, making access to the municipality difficult, while a new landslide occurred on the road leading from the Versalles township to the urban area of ​​Montebello, which forced a new closure.

The mayor also pointed out that they are waiting for Dagran to provide them with support to take the families from the upper part of the mountain by air, in order to transfer them to the urban area, where temporary shelters have been set up. It is expected that this work will be completed this Saturday afternoon.

On the other hand, in the early morning hours, another landslide occurred in Montebello that caused two homes to collapse and left the same number of people injured, who were taken to a hospital and are out of danger.

After learning about the torrential avenue, the governor of Antioquia Andrés Julián Rendón stated that they are in contact with “all the mayors where emergencies have occurred as a result of the rainy season.”
