Robberies, carrying weapons, drug dealing, injuries and gender violence: complaints from residents of the Balvanera building

The residents of the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Balvanera reported more than 40 times since 2016 what was happening on that property. According to police sources, it is a deteriorated site as a result of internal construction. There, 47 people were evicted. Among them were 11 families, according to the publication made by the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri. Some of the occupants were referred to the City Social Inclusion Centerswhile others chose to go to hotels and the rest moved on their own.

The building is located on Larrea street, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Balvanera.

The request from the neighbors was reiterated: in total, there were 42 complaints made against what was happening in the building, which they mentioned as “a den of criminals“, according to sources.

The last incident of insecurity reported this year occurred in April. A suspect was arrested with cocaine, a weapon of war and a .45 caliber pistol. In turn, in January, that is, four months ago, they recovered 10 cell phones and 3 notebooks: Everything had been stolen, according to the Police.

Also, in May 2023, a suspect was arrested for gender violence. Two years earlier, three other criminals were captured who were dedicated to drug dealing. During this same episode, several doses of cocaine, marijuana and base paste. Furthermore, in July of the same year, a gang of four criminals was dismantled. They had doses of drugs ready to sell, Firearms and 25 stolen cell phones, the sources of the case described.

In March 2019, two suspects were arrested who had in their possession 34 stolen cell phones. These are just some of the cases reported by residents of the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Balvanera and that were reported by the City Police.

In the operation carried out this Sunday morning, personnel from the SAME; of the general directorate of the Emergency and Relief Guard and of the undersecretariat of Citizen Security and Public Order -both dependent on the Ministry of Security-; agents of the undersecretariats of Hygiene and Urban Planning, of the Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene.

In turn, the work to refer the occupants who were evicted this morning was carried out by the Ministry of Human Development and Habitat of the City, according to police information.

The neighbors had reported incidents of insecurity 42 times in total.

“We evicted in a professional and peaceful manner, but firmly, a property that was usurped years ago and with an order to vacate it. I took over the Government with the commitment to put right what was wrong and this was one of those cases. We made all the social assistance options of the City Government available,” the head of Government said in this regard.

For his part, the Buenos Aires Minister of Security, Waldo WolffHe stressed: “This building had more than 40 complaints for incidents of insecurity. There have already been 33 raids and we arrested 34 people. The street is not a place to live and that is why we give them the possibility of reintegrating them and helping them, but we are not going to allow them to sleep on the street because that is dangerous for them and for everyone.”

Along the same lines, he spoke Diego Kravetzthe Secretary of Security, who highlighted: “Excellent work by @PoliciaCiudadBA to continue fighting crime and drug dealing.”
