In a game played in the southern city of Concepción, the light blue dragons took the lead from the eighth minute when referee Diego Flores scored a penalty against the university students and Álvaro Ramos did not miss his shot.
With that score they went to half-time, but in the 54th minute Diego Orellana made it 2-0 for Iquique with a powerful shot that beat the blues’ goalkeeper, Gabriel Castellón.
However, the championship leaders reacted immediately and three minutes later Marcelo Morales scored the first goal for the University of Chile and in the 66th minute Argentine Luciano Pons equalized with a powerful header.
Both teams were able to take the victory during the rest of the match, but the ball refused to enter the nets.
In other Sunday games, Unión La Calera beat Ñublence 2-1; Everton de Viña del Mar defeated Cobreloa by the same score and Audax Italiano beat a battered O’Higgins 5-0.
At the end of the 11th, Universidad de Chile leads the standings with 25 points, escorted by Palestino and the Coquimbo pirates (21); Iquique (20); Universidad Católica (18), and Unión Española, Colo Colo and Everton, with 17 each.
In the lower part, Deportes Copiapó and La Calera are in the relegation zone, with six and eight units respectively, while Audax Italiano and Cobresal occupy boxes 13 and 14.
