According to Jorge Enrique Lozano Mestre; Secretary of Peace and Human Rights of the Mayor’s Office of Neiva, regarding the updated registry of displaced people in the municipality of Neiva, according to the Victims Unit, In the capital of Huila there are 53,386 victims of displacement.
“We at the Regional Center for Attention to Victims, so far this year ending April 26, We have registered 170 people who have come to testify. That is, recent people who have arrived in the municipality”, the secretary stated.
He also clarified that “the 53,386 victims are not all the victims who are in the city of Neiva, These are only due to displacement, there are other victimizing events that give us a total figure of 63,600; But many of them arrive, they declare, stay for a while and leave, that’s why there is a difference of 6 thousand people.”
Regarding the factors that generate human mobilization towards the capital of Huila, firstly it is because the majority of people move when some type of specific situation arises, to the municipalities where they originate, “They do it because they have a support network in the city, that is, close people, friends, family, acquaintances; which gives them security and protection”, Lozano Mestre asserts.
The second thing, because it is a larger capital in the south of the country, they see in Neiva an opportunity to be able to generate income, resources, employment. Thirdly, because in one way or another Neiva gives them the possibility of communicating more easily between the municipalities from which they come.
Where do cases of displacement come from?
The influential areas in this sense of displacement, are 55 percent areas of Huila, 19 percent of Caquetá, 26 percent of other departments, and the municipalities that report the most people arriving in Neiva are Algeciras, Nátaga, Tello, Baraya; localities that are expelling people for this victimizing event.
Most of these displacements are attributed, not only to threats and extortion; but to the incidence of groups outside the law, But also an issue that worries us is the recruitment of girls, boys and adolescents, additionally, new groups outside the law that are arriving in the territories.
“That is very worrying, and fundamentally They are scourges, specific situations that the community manifests who arrives displaced to the Regional Center for Victims of the Conflict” emphasized the head of the Secretariat of Peace and Human Rights of Neiva.
