With an excellent score of 97/100 and a unanimous vote that allowed it to win the double gold medal, the whiskey of Dinahuapan origin stood out among the different participating drinks for its quality and an outstanding flavor that evokes the purity of the snow of the andes and rescues fruity accents with interesting notes of walnuts and other dried fruits.

Born where the mountains of the cordillera merge with the landscapes of the extensive Rio Negro steppe, the Madoc Distillery emerged as a family business in 2016 with the aim of creating a quality and innovative product for both the region and the province. Although it currently has a production of 7,000 bottles per year, this venture has plans to expand to consolidate nationally and continue providing high quality products.

An industry in full growth

With excellent quality drinks and production processes in constant improvement, the world of spirits is in full expansion in the Rio Negro territory. In this context, in the Upper Valley is Rarakün, a distillery that was born in Villa Regina in 2019 and that produces single malt whiskey with a productive flow of 1,000 bottles per year, although with the aim of generating new products it is in the testing stage with different yeasts and types of barrels.

It is a local enterprise that emerged with the purpose of producing a different product in the area and that, thanks to the strong and constant work carried out, in 2022 it was recognized with the Entrepreneurs Río Negro award, a program promoted with the objective of promoting sustainable development of the province’s entrepreneurs.

In the region, more precisely in Cinco Saltos, is Batiste, a small distillery where Scottish-style whiskey is made, whose production is carried out in the home of its own owners, where the secrets of the spirituous drink and the years of experience gave way to a high quality product.

Currently, Batiste is one step away from making a leap towards small-scale industrialization thanks to an upcoming move to a larger space, where production will go from being a family hobby to immersing itself in a more formal stage with systematized processes, without leave aside the warmth that always characterized this venture.

On the other hand, in the Andean region, in addition to Madoc, the production of Estepario stands out, a whiskey made in San Carlos de Bariloche based on 100% Argentine malt and melt water from the Andes Mountains, which combines the flavors of the nature and ancient alchemy to give way to a high-level product, whose aromatic perception is extremely attractive, merging perfectly with its pleasant and persistent flavor.

It is important to highlight that in all cases, the distilleries open their doors to visitors who wish to learn more about the production characteristics and the different processes and take home a copy of these Rio Negro whiskeys.
