On Monday (5/6), Ponte Preta achieved its first victory in Serie B-2024: it beat Amazonas 3-0 at the Moise Lucarel. In this way, they leave the risk field and rise to tenth place with four points. Amazonas is in the relegation zone in 18th place with one point. Pontero’s goals were scored by Gabriel Novaes (two) and Dodo. Curiously, the play was not offside.
The match was not played at the last minute in Amazonas. Veteran and popular striker Joe (former Corinthians, Atlético-MG and Brazil national team) has been confirmed as a starter. But in the end they called him again because he was detained hours before the trip for non-payment of child support for his daughter.
Race wins in the end
Although Amazonas had more of the ball during the 90 minutes (55%) and scored 9 times in Pedro Rocha’s goal, the truth is that Ponte was much more effective. At the age of 16, Makaka scored the first goal when Gabriel Novaes took him from the left, put it through the middle and shot hard, leaving goalkeeper Edson Mardden with no chance. Ponte continued up and in the 34th, again with Gabriel Novaes wide. Masi once sent the attacker in from off the field and made the score 2-0.
In the second half, Amazonas tried to stop, but neither Sassa nor any of Amazonas’ attackers were inspired. The game became boring. But in extra time, Dodo took advantage of a pass from Elvis between the defenders, dominated and played the ball out and Edson Mardden closed the scoring.
