Defense of Olmedo López says that there is no ‘soft coup’ and that President Petro is not in a collaboration matrix

In fact, in the statement they respond to President Gustavo Petro, who this Monday mentioned that both López and Sneyder Pinilla, former deputy director of the UNGRD, “fell into the temptation of saving their sentences by accusing them.” The president added that “what is being built is a line of attack.”

Regarding these statements by President Petro, the statement from López’s defense, which was known to EL TIEMPO, indicated that the president is not part of the collaboration matrix. His son Nicolás Petro does not appear in this either.

“Consequently, it denies any rumor that may have been generated about this fact; we have not proposed, up to this point, any collaboration matrix, so we are unaware of any name that may have been assumed,” the document mentioned.

It was also reiterated in the letter that Olmedo López promised to tell the truth in search of a principle of opportunity with the competent authorities.

“Lawyers cannot talk about facts or people, which is why we have not done so or pointed out. However, we will accompany our protected person following ethical guidelines, transparency and professionalism, trusting in the veracity and authenticity of the evidentiary elements shown to this defense and in the facts narrated by him,” the defense stated in the statement.

In addition, López’s lawyers requested a work table with the Prosecutor’s Office and they pointed out that “we would never be part of a plan to affect our beloved country or the institutions.”

In the document they even regret “with deep fear the statements made regarding a possible coup d’état or soft coup.”

According to the defense, “we do not have any political intention, much less have we met with any politician; “No person can speak on behalf of trusted lawyers, much less to ask for anything other than the truth.”
