Coinciding with the celebration of the Festival of the Patios of Córdoba, Casa Arab displays at its headquarters (c/ Samuel de los Santos Gener, 9) a star made with Palestinian embroidery (“tatriz”) created collaboratively by its followers. In this way, the institution links two elements of the material and intangible heritage of humanity – the Patios of Córdoba and Palestinian embroidery – as part of its work to give visibility to the cultural wealth of Arab origin.

The institution, with offices in Madrid and Córdoba, launched last December a program of activities around tatriz or traditional Palestinian embroidery that included a series of workshops by the Spanish-Palestinian cultural artists and embroiderers Dina Asfour and Maysun Cheikh Ali Mediavilla.

The workshops, a space for meeting and exchange, aimed to publicize the different varieties and dimensions of Palestinian embroidery, its meaning in Palestinian identity and culture, as well as in the economy and society, creating networks and job opportunities for the local population. and refugee, especially among women.

In Córdoba, the workshops were held at the Casa Arab headquarters and at the “Mateo Inurria” School of Art and Design, where students from the center were able to learn more about this traditional technique and its current development.

Furthermore, for those who could not participate in the activities, Casa Arabe offered the instructions and designs to carry out the work from home and have it later delivered to the institution, where the collective work that is now exhibited in its Andalusian headquarters was made.

The final result of this collaborative artisanal work can be visited at the Casa Arabe headquarters in the city, where it will remain on display until June 30. On the occasion of the Córdoba Patios Festival, extended opening hours are offered from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and exceptionally on the weekends of May 4, 5, 11 and 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (Sunday the 12th until 8:30 p.m.)

The star was on display at the Casa Arab headquarters in Madrid between March 18 and April 30.
