Every May 7, since last year, Misiones celebrates Provincial Sports Day, in tribute to Ernesto Gehrmann and in commemoration of his birth. But at the same time as a way to recognize, through the figure of “Finito”, the athletes of the province.
Gehrmann is the most important athlete in Misiones, due to his career, transcendence and preponderance, always maintaining humility and nobility as characteristic features of his personality.
Born in General Alvear, a rural neighborhood in Oberá, “Finito” is an Argentine basketball institution. He marked an era in the history of the discipline and is part of the list of historical scorers of the national team in World Cups. Only in 2010, Luis Scola – no less – surpassed him in the first position of that table. In 2018, in Posadas, the Argentine Basketball Confederation gave him a framed jersey, with the number that he identified himself with during his career, 15.
The origin of the anniversary dates back to September 2022, when the House of Representatives of the province established the Provincial Sports Day on May 7 of each year. At the same time, the annual award for excellence and high sports performance, called Ernesto “Finito” Gehrmann, was created to recognize and reward athletes from Misiones.
With the figure of Gehrmann as an emblem and example, the Ministry of Sports especially greets all athletes in the province.
