Tarapacá reaches 97.4% coverage in the preview of the second phase of the 2024 Census

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced the start of the second stage of the 2024 Census, extending until June and with a particular focus on the Tarapacá region. This phase is designed to address households that were not censused during the first phase, which recently concluded.

According to data provided by the INE, the Tarapacá region has reached 97.4% coverage in the census, indicating significant progress in the collection of demographic and social data. However, efforts will be intensified to complete the census in the areas still pending, with the aim of ensuring an accurate representation of the population in the region.

During this phase, the homes that were not censused in the first stage will be revisited, considering various reasons that could have prevented data collection, such as the absence of residents or the lack of availability to respond at that time. In addition, a tour will be carried out through the remaining 1.7% of the national territory that could not be addressed in the first census, ensuring complete coverage throughout the country.

In this sense, the INE highlighted the importance of this second stage of the census to obtain an accurate and updated image of the population and homes in Chile, which will allow better planning and decision-making in various areas.

Online Census

During these eight weeks, the Online Census platform has registered 16,322 letters about this new modality.

It should be noted that to date more than 6 million homes have been visited and contacted throughout the country, of which around 5% have not been able to or have chosen not to carry out the in-person interview.
