On Friday night, President Gustavo Petro gave a speech that lasted about 10 minutes. In it he made reference to the case of alleged corruption of the tank trucks of the National Disaster Risk Management Unit (UNGRD) and defended himself against those who link his government to said network with the supposed purpose of favoring the Executive’s agenda in the Congress.

In much of the speech, the president focused on his fights against corruption as a way to disassociate himself from this scandal. “The fight against corruption is one of the flags for which I have fought the most throughout my entire life. I have always sought and demanded transparency in the use of public resources in Colombia,” said Gustavo Petro.

Along these lines, the President recalled that he made complaints on issues such as parapolitics, the Bogotá contracting carousel and Odebrecht. He also mentioned that he has even proceeded to report when members of his family have been mentioned.

“Almost a year ago, information was leaked about two members of my family who, supposedly, had committed crimes. Any President would have done everything possible to torpedo the process. I, however, consistent with my principles, was the first to ask the then Attorney General of the Nation to investigate what happened,” he declared.

All this served as a prelude to mentioning that upon his arrival to the Government he has encountered corruption scandals in FOMAG, in the Public Force – alleged links with the mafia -, Ecopetrol and Dian. To that he added an alleged attempt to infiltrate his campaign, without mentioning whether this related it to the case of alleged irregular income of money to his presidential effort in 2022.
