Supervisors approved in the first discussion to analyze the possibility of reducing the speed limit in some areas of San Mateo County.
“Transportation experts say that by reducing speed we could save lives and this ordinance will directly affect schools and unincorporated areas in San Mateo County,” he explained.

Supervisors also have to find the monetary resources to implement this measure if it is approved in its entirety.
“We would also really have to prioritize which schools would be the first to need the resources and which ones are safer than others,” Canepa said.
Some residents approve of these measures since it would not only help save the lives of the most
little ones.
“They hurt an old man, but he was on the bicycle. I don’t know if he passed it bringing a car, he was all hurt. the Red Cross came,” said Lupe, a Redwood City resident.
And some drivers do not respect the maximum speed and cause accidents and deaths.
If the ordinance is approved, at least nine to twelve months will be anticipated to also develop a plan to identify schools, and the criteria for implementing the proposed changes.
Canepa told Telemundo 48 that within a couple of weeks all county supervisors will cast their final vote on this ordinance.
