The armed conflict in Colombia continues to claim innocent victims. This is what the representative of the Chamber for Cauca, Oscar Campo, denounces, who warns about the critical situation faced by more than 350 peasant families displaced by the recent fighting in the rural area of Algeria, Cauca.
While the country is shaken by the vile murder of soldiers in this municipality, Campo focuses on the human drama experienced by hundreds of civilians forced to abandon their homes and lands. “More than 350 families have had to move to the municipal seat of Algeria and the township of El Plateado, while others remain confined to the villages of Bolivia, Florida and Betania,” warns the congressman.
This situation has unleashed a humanitarian crisis that requires immediate attention from the authorities. “From the moment the Government lifted the ceasefire with the Central General Staff, the system of care for the civilian population had to be reinforced,” says Campo. “In addition to food and blankets, it is essential to provide psychosocial help to these displaced groups.”
The representative makes an urgent call to coordinate the different levels of the State to respond effectively to this emergency. “The mayor’s office of Algeria, which is closer to the needs of the people, must feel fully supported to provide the supplies and care that this victim population requires,” he emphasizes.
Campo also highlights the importance of not neglecting the education and health of displaced children and adults. “All minors removed from their classrooms must receive a message of hope from the educational system, and medical care must be guaranteed for the different conditions they may present.”
This harsh reality shows that, while armed battles are fought, it is the innocent civilians who end up paying the highest price. It is urgent that the Colombian State acts forcefully to safeguard the fundamental rights of these peasant families from Cauca, victims of a conflict that does not belong to them.
