Three criminal gangs dedicated to drug trafficking in Magdalena Medio were dismantled in a recent operation carried out by the Sectional Directorate of Prosecutors of this subregion.

The prosecuting body announced that the groups ‘Los Compa’, ‘Villas del Coral’ and ‘El Combo de John’ were dismantled in Barrancabermeja (Santander), Puerto Berrío (Antioquia) and Aguachica (Cesar), respectively.

How did these groups act outside the law?

The group ‘Los Compa’ was active in communes 5 and 7 of Barrancabermeja and is presumed to have links with the Édgar Amilkar Grimaldo Barón front of the Eln. They used various strategies to sell narcotics and had established themselves as one of the main distributors in the area.

In Puerto Berrío, Antioquia, an operation was carried out in the Los Naranjos neighborhood, where the authorities dismantled the ‘Villas del Coral’ group, and 15 kilograms of narcotics were confiscated. The authorities also captured the alleged leader of the gang, who was sent to preventive detention.

On the other hand, in Aguachica, Cesar, five people were captured in the Las Delicias neighborhood, who allegedly controlled drug trafficking in the sector. This group, known as ‘El Combo de John’, was also involved in receiving stolen goods. In addition to hiding firearms.
