They seek to extend sanctions for abandoning animals in Mendoza

A bill entered this week in the Chamber of Deputies of Mendoza to modify article 55 of the Code of Contraventions local and include a subsection, with the objective of sanction the abandonment of domestic animals on public roads.

“We seek to promote a new approach to responsible ownership, through specialized guides, understanding ownership as the responsibility that comes with having a pet, from its acquisition until its natural death,” the legislator explained among the arguments.

The Animal Protection Law 14,346 already establishes prison sentences of fifteen days to one year for those who inflict mistreatment or acts of cruelty on animals, but it seeks to expand the scope of local regulations.

Specifically, if the abandonment of animals on public roads is included as a contravention, the sanction will be a “fine from two hundred (200) UF to one thousand (1,000) UF or arrest from two (2) days to ten (10) you give”.

The San Rafael deputy mentioned that the abandonment of litters of puppies and newborn cats, as well as injured, injured or mistreated animals, has become a common scene on the streets of the province. For this reason, he considers it vital to implement a more effective control system.
