The musician was sentenced to 13 years in prison because López’s defense, the complaint and the Prosecutor’s Office agreed.

In this way, he must serve his sentence in the Provincial Penitentiary Service (SPP) of Miraflores, in the Capayán department.

The abbreviated trial was held because López confessed the facts and admitted responsibility. That is, he admitted to having abused the 12-year-old girl, who was the victim.

During the investigation, the Prosecutor of Instruction No. 1, Yésica Miranda, charged him with one act of “simple aggravated sexual abuse” and two acts of “sexual abuse with carnal access aggravated by being a person in charge of education.”

Initially, the case was processed in the Hearing Management Office (OGA) of the Judiciary for a trial by jury.

López was arrested on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at his home in San Antonio, Fray Mamerto Esquiú, by order of prosecutor Miranda.

The report of the incident was made on Sunday, March 14 of that year in Judicial Unit No. 10 and the case was turned over to Miranda, who was on duty.

According to the complaint, the parents indicated that López was the girl’s music teacher, an activity through which he maintained fluid contact with the family and his victim.

During the investigation of the case, it was established that the girl’s father discovered WhatsApp messages that the musician wrote to the girl.

Days before the sexual assault became known, López was found in a mountain area of the Ambato department, where he had allegedly gone, upon becoming aware of the complaint against him.

That day the man had to be assisted by doctors from the local hospital since he had multiple injuries, because he had “accidentally” fallen down a deep ravine where he was badly injured and with part of his clothing.

Accordance

The plaintiff lawyer, Gisel Saseta, gave an interview to El Ancasti once the trial was over. On the occasion, the lawyer indicated that the victim’s family “is very satisfied” with the sentence.

“We believe that this sentence is restorative in that he confessed the facts as presented by the victim through the Gesell Chamber. And that seems very important to us for her, so that the truth of everything that happened is known. We find it extremely important for the satisfaction of the victims,” he added.

On the other hand, he emphasized that López accepted this sentence, in part, “to avoid exposing himself in a popular trial and because accepting would benefit this sentence.”
