Governor Rogelio Frigerio explained the axes of the political and electoral reform for the province, which include the single ballot. He also proposed opening dialogue with the different sectors for its realization. “This is a debate that has to involve all of us,” he said.

He did so this Tuesday, at the Provincial Convention Center (CPC) of Paraná, before the provincial legislators, representatives of the 20 political forces of the province, members of the federal and provincial Electoral Justice; and university rectors, who were summoned for the presentation.

During his presentation, the president clarified that it is not a “canning of proposals”, but “a guide to start discussing with some urgency because, also, this is a non-electoral year and, in general, it is agreed that the Non-electoral years are the most productive years to undertake a political reform like the one we propose.”

“It is a reform that has to, in my opinion, go beyond changing the system in which voting is done in the province,” he said, adding: “We surely have to discuss other things: how we can strengthen the political parties , which I believe is a demand of all of us who are in politics and that is clearly a pending issue for many years. What are we going to do with the definition of the candidacies within each political space, if we are going to continue with the PASO. , if we are going to go to another scheme”. Regarding the latter, he said that we must be attentive to what the National Government defines.

Frigerio linked the proposal with the imperative of uniting society and politics again. “We are going to do it with attitudes like today’s: discussions regarding society, changes and modifications that, in some issues, have been going on for almost 100 years, such as the electoral system.”

“In the 21st century we are all obliged to rethink these things and move forward in a different direction. This has to be a State reform that goes far beyond the political parties, the political-partisan situation of the province,” he insisted.

The governor took advantage of the occasion to encourage achievements that bring Entre Ríos closer to the innovations made by its sisters in the Central Region. “We are the only province among them that has not made sensible modifications in electoral matters and today we begin to pay off that debt,” he encouraged.

In saying goodbye, he suggested reaching consensus to present the reform to the Legislature before the end of the year “and start 2025 with these modifications embodied in a law.” And he set the goal of a management “of different actors” to leave as a legacy “a modernization and adaptation of our political system, of the electoral system, to the new times.”

Democratize the electoral system

Meanwhile, the Minister of Government and Labor, Manuel Troncoso, highlighted: “It is a very important day, because what was for the current governor a transcendental campaign axis is beginning to materialize, building in a democratic and joint manner a political reform of the party law and the electoral code”.

He specified that an electoral system is understood as “all the set of rules and regulations that provide for the form and method we have as a society of electing our representatives.” And he added that in Entre Ríos there is an electoral system that, despite having several amendments and “patches”, its origin dates back to 1930. Therefore, he considered that it is necessary to adapt the democratic and electoral system to the circumstances, to the historical contexts. , socioeconomic and sociocultural.

Among those present, the Vice Governor Alicia Aluani stood out; the Minister of Government and Labor, Manuel Troncoso; and the secretaries of Institutional Affairs and Political Reform, Julián Maneiro, and general of the Interior, Mauricio Colello. In addition, the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies, Gustavo Hein, and the Superior Court of Justice, Leonardo Portela, among others.
