General strike on May 9: Will Education discount the day for San Juan teachers?

The General Confederation of Workers (CGT) will carry out a new general strike this Thursday, May 9, the second since Javier Milei is president of the Nation. High compliance is expected taking into account that the “large” unions are collapsing, including banking and transportation, for the most part. Regarding classes, of the three unions that represent teachers in San Juan, two of them have already announced that they will fold: these are UDA and AMET. While in UDAP, which has the largest number of members, the bases will define it and the answer would be between this afternoon and Wednesday.

In this framework, the Ministry of Education spoke about the issue and whether or not it is appropriate to deduct the day for teachers. In dialogue with Estación Claridad, Minister Silvia Fuentes said that for now they have not received official communication from the unions about their adherence to the force measure.

“We are going to have contemplation with the teacher who uses public transportation, and with the students, because it is not their fault that there is no transportation,” he said. Then he added that “we are going to have to dig deep in this case to see who are the people who use public transportation and what is the compliance. “We have to evaluate the situation.”
