La Rioja is the first province with the highest number of donors per million inhabitants in the country

This occurred after the fifth process so far this year of organ ablation that was carried out last weekend at the Vera Barros Hospital. As a consequence, two patients from Rioja, one from the capital and the other from Ulapes, were transplanted with kidneys in the province of Córdoba.

In this context and celebrating the month dedicated to organ donation, the director of CUCAILaR, Carlos Reynoso, explained that the act of donating allows more people to improve their quality of life and, in many cases, continue living. “It satisfies us and motivates us to continue working. This means that we are responding to society. It is hard and important work. There are many people who work on the donation,” he said.

The specialist assured that society is becoming aware day by day about what organ donation means, after the sanction of Law 27,447, Justina Law, in 2018: “we learn from the youth who are very attentive on social networks, They teach us older people to become aware. At least recently and after the Justina Law came out, people became aware because the law is very clear.”

In this sense, he indicated that there is a clear commitment by society to organ donation: “People sign up and ask questions at events and it is very satisfactory. Requests to talk about the issue, it is difficult to talk about death or what to do with our organs once we die, but it is important to do so.”

Let us remember that people interested in being organ donors can do so through Mí Argentina or register on the CUCAILaR website. Currently the list of patients who are waiting for an organ is quite extensive, “today 92 patients are on waiting lists, and just this year we have 22 transplants,” Reynoso noted.
