Tonight, within the framework of the Cultural Week of the University of Magdalena, an important event will be held, which has been called ‘El Magdalena Grande le Canta Santa Marta’.

This special serenade will take place today at the Santa Marta Theater, starting at 7:00 pm, it is an invitation extended by the rector of the Alma Mater, Pablo Vera Salazar in commemoration of the 62 years that the Educational Institution is celebrating. Superior, and as a previous tribute to Santa Marta for her 500 years.

‘This is a cultural event, in our purpose to accompany our city from different perspectives, it is the commitment of the University of Magdalena, of all its sectors, of the university community in general. With this we want to tell Santa Marta that it is not alone in the process of commemorating its 500 years,’ said Dr. Pablo Vera Salazar, rector of the university institution.

The serenade ‘El Magdalena Grande le Canta Santa Marta’ will be performed by prominent composers Wilfran Castillo, Rafael Manjarrez, Gustavo Gutiérrez, Luis Aurelio ‘Yeyo’ Núñez and Roberto Calderón.

GUEST COMPOSERS

-Wilfran Castillo was born in Valledupar, he stands out as a great composer and singer of vallenato music. He began to develop his side as a composer, currently having more than 500 songs and multiple national and international recognitions.

-Rafael Manjarrez, was born in the municipality of La Jagua del Pilar, La Guajira, and since his beginnings in Vallenato composition, more than 300 songs have been recorded for him. He is vice president of Sayco and author of songs such as ‘Mi presidio’, ‘Benditos verses’, Ausencia sentimental’, (Anthem of the Vallenata Legend Festival) and ‘That’s not her’.

-Gustavo Gutiérrez, born in Valledupar, has determined a before and after for the lyrics of vallenato. His interest in romantic situations made him distance himself from the minstrelsy and descriptive tradition of many of his contemporaries, to focus on lyrics that sing about love, the sorrows of the soul, friendship and family.

– Luis Aurelio ‘Yeyo’ Núñez: Born in Zambrano, Guajira. He belongs to the group of composers who are updated on everything that happens in their environment, he writes to the lover, to the chip, to love, to the cell phone, to the natural and exotic landscapes of Zambrano and San Juan del Cesar, to the Moon Sanjuanera, to heartbreak, to the beautiful women of San Juan del Cesar and La Guajira.

-Roberto Calderón: is a renowned composer born in the municipality of San Juan del Cesar, La Guajira. Considered a reference in vallenato music, his songs have been recorded by artists such as Diomedes Díaz, Jorge Oñate, Poncho Zuleta, Peter Manjarrés, Beto Zabaleta and Silvestre Dangond, among others.
