Díaz-Canel, who arrived in this country the day before on a two-day working visit, highlighted that his trip is a “milestone” in bilateral relations, and recalled that the inauguration ceremony of Russian President Vladimir Putin took place the day before. , according to the official RIA Nóvosti agency.
Putin’s victory by an “overwhelming majority” is a “lesson for the world” about his leadership in Russia and his authority in the international arena, said the Cuban president.
For his part, Medvedev described Cuba as a “reliable partner” and a symbol of courage for many generations in the fight for the island’s freedom and independence.
“Today our countries maintain an intense political dialogue,” he stressed and also highlighted ministerial and parliamentary cooperation.
He expressed his willingness to discuss with the Cuban leader issues related to economic relations and links between the Cuban communist party and the Kremlin party, United Russia, of which he is the leader.
In addition, he thanked Cuba for its “coherent position” on the situation in Ukraine and wished him a successful stay in Russia, insisting that Moscow has a “very warm” relationship with Havana.
Medvedev, who headed the Kremlin between 2008 and 2012, also conveyed to Díaz-Canel “best wishes for General Raúl Castro.”
In another vein, Díaz-Canel wrote on the social network
“It is a symbol of the historical friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Russia,” he wrote.
Díaz-Canel, who will participate this afternoon as a representative of an observer country at the Eurasian Economic Union summit, will attend the traditional military parade on Victory Day over Nazi Germany on Thursday in Red Square.
The Cuban leader, who last traveled to Russia in November 2022, will meet with Putin tomorrow, according to the Kremlin.
