The mayor of Ocaña seeks the reactivation of air service from Ocaña at low cost

The mayor of Ocaña, Emiro Canizares Silver, has a crucial appointment this Wednesday in Cúcuta. He will meet with the governor of Norte de Santander and the general manager of Satena to find a solution to the lack of commercial flights in the city.

The absence of air connectivity in Ocaña, a city with a population of 140,000 inhabitants and a significant presence of international cooperation agencies, has been a constant source of concern for Mayor Cañizares Plata. Although Several attempts have been made recently, the efforts have failed due to the little interest of the Ocañeros. The lack of flights hinders the mobility of citizens and limits economic development opportunities for the region, the municipal president hinted.

At this Wednesday’s meeting, the mayor will present a proposal for Satena to implement a low-cost air route that connects Ocaña with Cúcuta, initially but will be sought in the future, Barrancabermeja and Medellín. This route would be of great benefit to the population, especially for students, businessmen and tourists, taking into account the social routes announced last year by the national government.

Ocaña is part of the 141 social routes promoted by the government of Gustavo Petro. However, despite being included in this program, the city has not yet been incorporated into the cheap flight offer. Mayor Cañizares Plata hopes that the meeting with Satena will allow progress in the implementation of this route and improve the city’s air connectivity.

Ocaña had air frequencies since the time of “Aerotor” and more recently with “ACES”, which sent to Cúcuta, Barrancabermeja and Medellín. However, these services were suspended, leaving the city without commercial air connection.
