Called at the national level by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the new general strike of workers will take place this Thursday, May 9, and will be replicated in Paraná with the paralysis and mobilization of different sectors. In the provincial capital, various organizations and unions called to participate in this measure of force, the second of this type in 2024.

With the aim of making manifest the discontent regarding the economic measures taken by the national government of Javier Milei, this Thursday different rallies will be held that will culminate in the Government House. This measure of force also seeks to make visible the difficult situation that a good part of the population is going through and that is most affected in the most popular neighborhoods.

In Paraná, unions such as ATE and UPCN, which represent state workers, Agmer, UDA, Sadop and AMET, which represent teachers, La Bancaria and UTA, join. Therefore, this Thursday the banks will not work; hospitals and health centers will do so with minimum guards; and urban, medium and long distance buses will not provide service.

Suoyem and APS, the unions that bring together municipal workers, also adhere to the strike and the suspension of activities will be 24 hours. According to Suoyem, the objective is to “mobilize in protest against the economic measures applied by the National Government, which directly impacted workers’ salaries.”

Social organizations also called for a general strike seeking to demonstrate the difficult situation of the sector. In the provincial capital, groups that make up the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP) will gather in Plaza 1° de Mayo at 10:30, and then move to each government office where a document will be read together with the other sectors.
