National Theater Day is commemorated in the Valparaíso Cultural Park

With the argument that Chilean theater “deserves to have a date in which its contribution to the country and culture is witnessed”, in 2006 the National Theater Day was established on the date of the birth of Andrés Pérez Araya, who stood out as actor, playwright and theater director. So then, 18 years after the national theater was commemorated, the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of the Valparaíso Region, together with the Cultural Park, will celebrate this significant milestone with two works by the Teatro LaWasha company. such as “Hoguera” and “Vaivén”.

Erick Fuentes Góngoraexecutive director (i) of the Valparaíso Cultural Park, in this regard, pointed out that “The national theater has been a fertile source of the country’s reflection and longing, so has the Buenos Aires and regional theater that, constantly and through its creators and performers, promotes imaginaries and challenges. As an institution that collaborates with the State of Chile in the implementation of cultural policies, we work continuously promoting and encouraging the exhibition of this art within this public space, site of memory and cultural center such as the Ex-Prison of Valparaíso. Then we opened our doors to celebrate together with the Seremi of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Valparaíso a new celebration for National Theater Day.”

In turn, the Ministerial Regional Secretary of Culture, Arts and Heritage Region of Valparaíso, Javier Esnaola Vidalindicated that “Every May 11 we celebrate National Theater Day in our region, commemorating the birth of maestro Andrés Pérez, the greatest reference of street theater in Chile. It is through it that we celebrate all the people and artists who dedicate their lives to Theater, in its various dimensions and productions, who make us reflect and marvel at their talents and ways of perceiving reality. For this important day, we will have the outstanding participation of Teatro LaWasha, a Buenos Aires company with more than 10 years of experience in our region, who in their works highlight our local identity.”

The invitation is to celebrate Theater Day with the play “Bonfire” which will be presented this Sunday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. and that addresses the story of the eviction of a home, bursting deep desires and memories in its inhabitants. Then, on Friday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m., it will be the turn of the immersive montage “Sway” which arises from an anthropological study on the concept of death for the Changa culture. “Both theatrical pieces will be presented for free at the Valparaíso Cultural Park.”
