Within the framework of the extraordinary sessions of the Santa Marta Council, a debate was held around article 10 of the District Development Plan, specifically on the power that would be granted to the mayor for the sale of undeveloped public land. Councilman Miguel Martínez raised concerns about this provision.

Martínez expressed: “He is asking for authorization here so that he can sell as he pleases… how many tax properties are there in the city of Santa Marta and what are they, Madam Secretary?“In addition, he mentioned specific examples of possible tax properties such as”the property behind the old Transport Terminal” and “the lot that is in Pozos Colorados by Ecopetrol“, urging that it be clarified which properties could be subject to this provision and what the valuation of each one is.

For her part, the Secretary of Planning, Patricia Caicedo Lafaurie, responded to the councilor by pointing out that certain properties, such as the old Transport Terminal, are not contemplated for sale, but are planned to be used for ‘Municipal Administrative Center‘.

That’s not a lot the district is considering exiting; Quite the contrary, it is a space that we consider and are planning there for what we call the ‘Municipal Administrative Center’, which I believe that today the district of Santa Marta is investing too many resources in real estate rentals and the operation of the atomized administration. throughout the city it is not efficient“explained the secretary.

Caicedo Lafaurie also highlighted that this process will be carried out in a transparent manner.

In order to give transparency to that request, we sat down and in the Commission we reviewed how we landed and we gave, let’s say, guarantees to you about where we are taking the project to sell the properties. This is how it should be because, let’s say, we have the intention because we need resources, we need them for the water project, but it will be something that we all talk about together.“, he stated.
