Regional Council of Los Lagos approved direct allocation for women’s basketball in southern Chile

During the recent plenary session of the Los Lagos Regional Council, the councilors voted unanimously to directly assign 50 million pesos to the Women’s Basketball League of the Los Lagos region (Femisur).

Femisur is a women’s basketball league in Chile that seeks to promote gender equality in sports and encourage the development of women’s basketball. The league has 18 participating teams from the region, and 8 invited teams, totaling a total of 26 participating clubs for 2024, in four categories: Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18.

The Femisur League was founded in 2012, and since then it has been committed to creating a women’s basketball community in the southern region of Chile.

In terms of numbers, the league has at least 1,400 girls and young people competing, and more than 4,000 people who are around this sport, including fathers, mothers, club leaders, thus also contributing to community training, essential for development. of any society.

Héctor Rodríguez, president of Femisur, expressed that “the objective is to be able to obtain a fund to be able to go to the aid of the 26 clubs that we are formed this year. And in summary it is seeking to present the arbitration, seeking help to resolve the arbitration and thus help the clubs. And thank God it went well for us. Last year we also proposed the same project, which has already been completed without any observations and which directly helped the clubs. So very happy and we hope to continue with the help. This project has an important scope because it helps the 26 clubs from the Los Lagos region to La Araucanía, Magallanes, Aysén. There are 18 clubs in the Los Lagos region that will be able to count on financial aid for arbitration.”

The president of the Chiloé Provincial Commission, Nélson Águila, indicated that “in the specific case of Chiloé there will be 3 clubs that will benefit, Castro, Ancud and Chonchi. This allocation provided by the Regional Government is intended for the development of the Femisur Women’s Basketball League for season number 12, which will take place this year 2024. And this allocation will also help the participating clubs to afford their participation. in this league in travel, food and the services necessary for the correct development of this competition. Here it is necessary that the arbitration services and the control table are aimed at obtaining a good level of arbitration and control table so that the competition is developed in a healthy and fair manner and the main objective is met, which is women’s sports training. As the regional councilor of Chiloé, I want to express my gratitude because this is a league that, although it was born in Chiloé, today has spread throughout the region and beyond the region.”

Meanwhile, the regional councilor for the province of Llanquihue, Ricardo Kuschel, said that “it is undoubtedly an example and a wonderful work that has more than one thousand four hundred athletes and more than four thousand people who gather around a gym to to live, to teach, and through sport to receive all the values that sport competitively delivers. So I believe that sport has prioritized this need for the second consecutive year and this allows us to have a top-level championship with the regulatory control tables, with the refereeing as appropriate. So I think it is a great advance for basketball in southern Chile.”

This project seeks to target these activities so that this league continues to grow and contribute to the comprehensive development of girls and young people, highlighting the female presence on basketball courts throughout the region.
