Senate postponed the debate on the fiscal package and the ruling party’s time is shortened

After an intense day in the Senate, where the Secretary of Energy Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo could not dispel all the opposition’s doubts, It was decided to postpone the treatment of the fiscal package until this Thursday at 10.

Next, the debate on the Bases law will be resumed in the General Legislation commissions; Budget and Finance; and Constitutional Affairs of the upper house, chaired by the libertarians Bartolomé Abdala (San Luis) and Ezequiel Atauche (Jujuy), and the dissident Peronist Edgardo Kueider (Entre Ríos), respectively.

In the plenary session of committees this Wednesday, the Secretary of Energy, Rodríguez Chirillo, tried to clarify the doubts raised by Senator Tagliaferri. She had pointed out that between articles 163 and 222 of the RIGI there were contradictions. In 222, the provinces are invited to join the RIGI. Meanwhile, in 163 it is implied that this step is not necessary for the operation of the RIGI. “Maybe the newsroom is not happy. I agree with that,” Rodríguez Chirillo conceded. “Let’s make him happy,” the PRO senator replied, ironically.

Is the May Pact in danger?

Another unknown is the vote of Martín Lousteau (UCR), who already voted against Javier Milei’s mega DNU. In particular, doubts are growing about whether it would accompany the RIGI and the changes in Personal property. With the RIGI, La Libertad Avanza aims to enable a benefits program for investments greater than 200 million dollars to accelerate investment decision-making by providing a framework of legal security.

Furthermore, the fiscal package already has a foothold in Deputies due to the refusal of several Patagonian governors to restitute the Income Tax.

Given this scenario, Peronism is increasingly confident that the Bases law and the fiscal package will be approved with changes in the Upper House and will have to return to Deputies, where the debate gets bogged down.

If this happens, The national government would not achieve approval of the Bases law or the fiscal package by May 25, date announced by president Javier Milei to sign the May Pact.
