Since the death of César Luis Menotti was confirmed on May 5, the sports world has been in mourning, since the Argentine soccer coach was world champion in 1978.
Menotti died after staying in a Buenos Aires hospital since March 30, after suffering from severe anemia and other health problems.
At halftime of the Argentine league final between Estudiantes and Vélez this Sunday, his death was announced and the fans who filled the stands of the Santiago del Estero stadium (north) exploded in applause.
He was also a champion coach at Barcelona in Spain and currently held a position as director of AFA national teams.
However, after his departure, it came to light that the Argentine star was supposedly related to Pablo Escobar, Well, according to journalist Christian Martinoli during an interview with David Medrado, there would have been some interest in Menotti directing Atlético Nacional in the 80s, a time of greatest impact of drug trafficking in Colombia.
The case would have occurred in 1983, when Menotti was coaching FC Barcelona, and after a match for the Spanish club, a group of people would have approached the Argentine to inform him that the ‘boss’ wanted to talk to him.
When Menotti supposedly responded that he should be in charge of the club’s responsibilities, the men responded: “Ready, on Monday afternoon you will be back here.”
“Set whatever price you want to come coach Atlético Nacional,” Escobar reportedly told the coach, to which Menotti reported that he wanted to continue coaching the Barça team.

It should be noted that in an interview with a Colombian media, César Luis Menotti himself said a year ago “What is said about me with Pablo Escobar is a lie”. What’s more, the Argentine indicated that he did talk about the possibility of managing a Colombian team, but it was not Atlético Nacional.
Menotti reported that at some point he spoke with directors of Deportivo Cali, at the time one of the most renowned teams in Colombian soccer. “I don’t know how you can say that about my alleged relationship with Pablo Escobar. “He is an infamy”said the Argentine in said interview.
