During an event of the “Government with the Popular Neighborhoods” in Santa Marta, President Gustavo Petro expressed that there is urgency in advancing “concrete plans.” “We don’t have time anymore. Even the corrupt want to get us out of the presidency quickly, so we have to work faster than them, not delay,” said the president this Wednesday, when he learned of the presentation that would file charges against his presidential campaign in the National Electoral Council ( CNE).

In his speech, the head of state made an urgent call to implement agrarian reforms in the department of Magdalena to democratize land ownership. “The land must be democratized so that it produces food in the hands of those who have the vocation to do so,” said Petro, highlighting the fundamental role of farmers, small businessmen and indigenous communities in this process.

The president also emphasized the importance of promoting clean energy, especially solar and wind, as a tool to promote sustainable development in Magdalena. In this sense, he urged the Minister of Energy and Mines, Andrés Camacho, to massively implement solar panels in the region to reduce electricity rates and promote the transition towards cleaner and renewable energy sources.

In addition to addressing issues of economic development and the environment, Petro dedicated part of his speech to the problem of urban violence in Santa Marta. He expressed concern about the escalation of violence in the region and proposed the implementation of an urban peace process to address this challenge. “We must work together to build peace in our cities, offering educational opportunities and engaging in dialogue with all parties involved,” the president emphasized.

Gustavo Petro and his ministers arrived in Santa Marta this Wednesday after stopping in Cartagena, where he also made reference to his situation in the CNE.
