Through Resolution 2/2024, the National Labor Commission for Private Home Personnel (CNTCP) announced a 35% increase in minimum wages for workers in the sector, effective as of February 2024. This measure seeks mitigate the effects of inflation and the economic difficulties facing the country, while promoting the well-being of domestic workers.
The 35% increase will be implemented in two phases:
A 20% increase will be applied from February 2024, based on the minimum wages established for December 2023.
A second increase of 15% will be effective from March 2024, based on the minimum wages established for February 2024. In addition, a review clause will be included on April 17, 2024 to evaluate the effects of the increase and make the necessary adjustments. necessary adjustments.
The decision of the CNTCP is based on the powers granted by Law No. 26,844, which regulates the Special Regime of Employment Contracts for Personnel in Private Houses. According to the law, the commission has the power to set minimum salaries or salary adjustments and improve the working conditions of staff in private homes.
The activity of Private Home Workers has five categories, according to the area of exploitation:
Supervisor: coordination and control of the tasks carried out by two or more people under her charge;
Personnel for specific tasks: cooks hired exclusively to carry out said work, and any other household task that requires special suitability of the staff to carry it out;
Landlords: personnel who provide tasks inherent to the general care and preservation of a home where they live due to the employment contract;
Assistance and care of people: includes non-therapeutic assistance and care of people, such as: sick people, people with disabilities, children, adolescents, older adults,
Staff for general tasks: provision of cleaning, washing, ironing, maintenance, preparation and cooking of meals and, in general, all other typical household tasks.
