A day of presentation of the new EDF doctors in the Training and Destination Stage was held by the Valparaíso-San Antonio Health Service at the CIAE facilities, belonging to the University of Valparaíso. An EDF doctor is a professional who enters through a public competition through article 8 of Law 19,664, being awarded a position according to the ranking obtained in the background review process.

Graciela Astudillo, director(s) of Primary Health Care, highlighted “that what is sought is to strengthen the network through this public policy with doctors who apply and win a place for the Cesfam in our network and who are a great contribution, because primary care, and especially with this family and community perspective, needs doctors who are also trained alongside us. It is an intense week of induction in which we hope to conquer them with this very important model that is the gateway such as primary care with the family and community model.

For her part, Dr. Lorna Urquieta, Primary Health Care advisor, highlighted that “today is the first working day of the doctors, who participated in the national entry competition for the destination and training stage. On this occasion we have 12 professionals who join our primary care network, both in dependent and municipal establishments in the provinces of Valparaíso, San Antonio and the Christmas commune. This induction is intended to understand what primary care is, what is its portfolio of services, portfolio of benefits, the healthcare network in general, mental health issues in general that we consider very important for the work that they will perform as doctors of our area. Most of the doctors are newly qualified and this is their first job, they will be with us for at least 3 years, in the destination stage once they move on to the training stage, therefore, it is very important “That they have these opportunities to get to know each other and the network where they will work.”

Alexis Provoste, from the Maule Region, heads to Juan Fernández Island and pointed out that “I always wanted to be in an extreme place and the opportunity was given to the island, a peninsular sector, which has a not so large population and one can make links with users and support my colleague, making health more accessible to people,” he concluded.
