Daiana Curilen, a folk dance teacher and cultural workshop leader from Puerto Madryn, is in full preparation for her first foray into an international competition. After having obtained the title of soloist champion in the Folklore category at the Argentine Dance National Championship in Mar del Plata, Curilen and her team are ready to represent her country and province at the Stage World Champions in Cartagena, Colombia.
“I have been dancing since I was 5 years old and this year I am just celebrating 26 years in dance,” he said and added that “my coordinator Lorena Falcone, creator and director of the Argentina Baila competition, will travel with us to said competition. Together we form the delegation Argentina”
Curilen, who is also the director of the Patagonian Folkloric Ballet “A Cielo y Tierra”, has dedicated her life to dance and the training of new talents. With a team of four dancers, including Franco Vilchez, Gonzalo Del Rio Curilen and Luis Berhau, they are preparing hard to face the competition in October.
“Since January 5, we began to prepare physically and began to dance on the beach to the ‘cap’, providing a show to people and tourists. We held empanada sales and some events to raise money month after month,” Curilen explained.
In addition to his commitment to the competition, Curilen continues his work as a dance and styling workshop at the Puerto Madryn House of Culture, where he continues to train dancers of all ages.
