Lack of incidents and a great turnout marked the welcome to the first-year students in Antofagasta.
With two massive events, the last one with more than 2,500 attendees, and a dozen activities, the current Executive Board of the Federation of Students of the Universidad Católica del Norte (FEUCN-Antofagasta) received the first-year students, in the framework of the “Mechona Week”.
The president of the FEUCN, spokesperson for the Northern Zone of the Confederation of Students of Chile (Confech) and UCN Journalism student, Matías Rivera Jorquera, made a positive assessment: “We managed to get the locks to participate, they had a good time in the reel and in the ‘afternoon’, which was filled”.
The Executive Board classified both massive events as a “success” and highlighted the absence of incidents and complex situations. “I feel that there is a generational change, there is a calmer generation compared to the post-pandemic moment”, reflected the Psychology student, Ignacio Ávila Cortés, general secretary of the FEUCN.
STAKE
One of the phenomena that has marked university politics at the national level has been student participation. On the one hand, the student body is actively involved in volunteering and recreational activities, at the same time that this interest is not usually reflected at the polls.
“Although university policy has been strengthened after the pandemic with the consolidation of student centers and inter-career articulation, little by little we will continue to advance in a stronger organization of the establishment”Riversa assured.
An important part of consolidating the student organization is the leadership of the new generations. After joining the Body of Psychology Delegates since she entered the career, Constanza Pérez Herrera is today Secretary of Finance of the FEUCN, a position that she, she assures, assumed with great responsibility. “I appreciate the atmosphere we have in the Federation, I feel that we work well, it is pleasant to go do everything that needs to be done. That is very redeemable”Perez highlighted.
The Executive Board, composed of the president, vice president and the General, Finance and Communications secretaries, made a call to the student body “to make them interested in what is happening. We are students but we don’t come just to study. It is important that students know that at the U you do not come to class and then leave, it is reformed like this”.
