The effect on flights: more than 70,000 passengers affected

The general strike of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) today will generate a loss of US$ 62 million in income from tourist expenses from the cancellation of at least 400 flights that will affect some 70,000 passengers who will have to modify their itineraries. This was stated in a statement by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), which represents 160 companies, including 45 airlines responsible for air traffic in the region, and 94% of the Argentine market, in which they expressed their “concern” about the measure of force.

“Contending only the direct losses for the national economy due to tourist spending, 12 million dollars a day are calculated, taking into account that, on average, a foreign tourist who arrives by air spends 1,144 dollars per day and, on average, enters daily 9,770 tourists by air. For its part, taking into account the income (direct, indirect and induced) generated by the air operation, for each day of strike there is an approximate loss of 62 million dollars,” ALTA warned.

The entity detailed that aeronautical personnel are included in the strike and the consequent cessation of activities by more than 30 companies will affect nearly 400 flights and some 70,000 passengers will have to cancel or modify their itineraries.
