Project includes Stgo-Valpo train and cable car in Alto Hospicio

From freeways until cable carsa desalination plant, and the long-awaited project of a Santiago-Valparaíso train. That is the bidding plan of the Ministry of Public Works between 2024 and 2025, which has a projected investment of 12.6 billion dollars which represent around 4% of GDP. An initiative that includes 24 projects and is expected to generate close to 32 thousand jobs in its construction stage.

This was presented by the Minister of Public Works, Jessica Lopezwith him General Director of Concessions, Juan Manuel Sánchez, presented this concession portfolio this Wednesday. «We present, specifically, the portfolio of projects that the ministry is going to develop during the remainder of President Boric’s Government. We have contemplated 24 projects to call for tenders between now and the end of the Government, for a figure of 17 billion dollars”, assured the Secretary of State.

In this regard, the president of the Association of Public Infrastructure Works Concessionaires (Copsa), Leonardo Danerihighlighted that “figures have been released that are historic throughout the history of the Public Works Concessions Law. These are all historical figures, both in terms of the number of works, the number of projects, projects under construction and in bidding.”

“In this government, bricks that were designed and put out to tender in previous governments are being laid. He is also ensuring that the number of bricks laid by the next team is much greater. That is to say, the section of the relay that is corresponding to this team, which is made up of the minister and the director of Concessions, has run faster than all the previous ones to deliver the relay to the next one,” added the president of COPSA.

Other notable projects

Other notable projects in the call include the Tsunami Warning System, improvements on Route 5 and the creation of a network of electrocorridors in Concepción. Furthermore, it was mentioned Coquimbo desalination plant and new penitentiary facilities in Talca and Copiapó.

Currently, there are 10 projects in the bidding process, with an expected investment of 6,306 million dollars. The Good Neighbor program, which seeks to promote community initiatives, plans to develop 163 projects in 2024, with an investment of 152 million dollars.

Finally, it was highlighted that the current concession contracts total 78, with a total investment of 25,849 million dollarsreflecting the government’s commitment to the development and modernization of the country’s infrastructure.
