A large march took place in the Capital. The CTA, ATE, AMP, SAE, the Socialist Left, the MST, the Polo Obrero and Barrios de Pie, among others, participated. In La Rioja the strike affected banks, schools, hospitals and urban passenger transport.

Different unions, political parties and union organizations mobilized this Thursday in the Capital city within the framework of the national strike called by the CGT.

The mobilization took place in Plaza 25 de Mayo and brought together a significant number of protesters. Teacher unions participated in the protest, including the Association of Teachers and Professors (AMP), the Union of Self-Convoked Education Workers (SAE) and also local delegations of national unions such as the CTA de los Trabajadores and ATE.

In addition, political parties such as the Socialist Left and the MST joined in as well as the social organizations Polo Obrero and Barrios de Pie. At the same time, workers from Radio Nacional La Rioja and the local delegation of the National Institute of Family Agriculture (INAFCI) also marched.

During the protest, the protesters launched harsh criticism of the government of President Javier Milei and spoke out against the adjustment carried out by the Casa Rosada.

In this framework, Karina Tejada, delegate of the Argentine Association of Communications Workers (AATRAC) and worker at Radio Nacional La Rioja, spoke with Riojavirtual Radio.

«We are firm, we know they are coming for us, but we are standing well. We are not going to be on our knees as they want to see us and we are going to fight until the end. We know that they come for work, for the bread of our children and grandchildren, we know that they did not like at all that for years we were able to build a radio that was the mother of all radios. “We are in a constant fight,” said Tejada.

Tejada added that at Radio Nacional La Rioja there is fear of layoffs, as has already occurred in other national organizations in the province, including Correo Argentino. “What they say is that there will be people who are going to lose their jobs, with voluntary retirements, with offers of early retirement,” she said.

In this sense, he said that the staff of Radio Nacional La Rioja is holding a signature meeting to resist a possible closure of that state station.

In La Rioja, the strike completely paralyzed classes in public schools as the five teaching unions bowed to the measure of force (AMP, UDA, SELaR, AMET and SADOP). The same situation occurred at UNLaR where there is a strike of university professors.

There was also total support for the strike in public banks (Banco Rioja and Banco Nación) and in private banks. Added to this was the accession of Rioja Bus, so this Thursday there is no urban passenger transport service. Likewise, care in the province’s public hospitals is affected since the APROSLAR union went on strike and only maintained minimum guards for emergencies.
