At 9:30 pm this Sunday, May 12, three armed men broke into a commercial establishment in the El Malecón de Lloró sector (Chocó) — where Mother’s Day was being celebrated — and murdered an identified 20-year-old man. as ‘Junior’ Renteria.

According to authorities, the three subjects entered the neighborhood through the wooded area on the river bank. Six other people who were chatting under the tent where the business operated were injured.

“The National Police reacts immediately when they hear shots being fired and as a result we have one more injured citizen, who was at the scene with a firearm, which he drew when he saw the presence of the police officers,” said Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Rojas, commander of the Chocó Police Department.

The man, who must explain why he was with a firearm in the place where the attack took place, is being treated at the San Francisco de Asís hospital in Quibdó along with the other six wounded.

All of the injured underwent surgery and three of them have a reserved prognosis. Those injured in the attack were: Stiwar Borja, María Yaneth, José Antonio Rentería, Diana Rentería, Jhoanana Moreno, Yosusr Borja and Yakson Borja.

The main hypothesis that the authorities have about what happened is the dispute that has been going on for several months in the municipality between the ‘Gulf clan’ and the ELN for territorial control.

In fact, in mid-March three people were murdered in an armed raid by the ‘Gulf clan’ in the urban area of Lloró.

When the events occurred, the municipal mayor’s office and the Government of Chocó requested the presence of the Army in the area. The municipal administration provided a home in Nuevo Lloró for the accommodation of the uniformed personnel.

“This morning we sent reinforcements to the Judicial Police station and personnel to expand the investigation,” added Lieutenant Colonel Rojas.
