Phnom Penh.- THE SECRETARY General of the Cambodian Volleyball Federation, Ang Serey Piseth, today expressed interest in promoting sports cooperation with Cuba, particularly in that discipline.

In a cordial and friendly meeting with the Cuban ambassador to the Kingdom, Milena Zaldívar, the federation highlighted the decisive contribution of Cuban coaches to the development of the sports movement in their country, with very significant results in boxing and volleyball, two very popular sports among Cambodian fans.

During the conversations, both parties evaluated actions that allow them to continue promoting the training of Cambodian athletes and coaches based on the exchange of experiences and comprehensive preparation, with a view to regional and international competitions.

In that sense, the Cuban diplomat highlighted bilateral cooperation as one of the pillars of the solid diplomatic ties that exist between Cuba and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Zaldívar also highlighted that the issues addressed are an expression of the will shared by both countries in the agreements and consensus signed as part of the exchange of high-level visits.

In the most recent edition of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32), held here last year, the Cambodian men’s volleyball team won the silver medals, starring in an unprecedented performance to which the experience of the Cuban coach contributed a lot. Berto Friol.

Friol and fellow beach volleyball coach Karell Peña remained for several months between 2022 and 2023 offering their collaboration to the Cambodian Volleyball Federation.
