Holy Motorsof Leos Carax (2012) is probably the French director’s most recognized film, perhaps precisely because of its particular nature. Starring Denis Lavant, the film narrates the routine of a day in the life of Monsieur Oscar: a man who travels, in a luxurious white limousine driven by Céline, from job to job. For each of them he adopts a new personality: beggar, monster, murderer, family man. It is a surprising sensory experience that crosses the barrier of normality; a film that evaluates life, death and everything in between.

In an article titled “The actor to see“, published in the magazine Mutations In February 2020, the author Blanca Vazquez refers to “Holy Motors” as “an entire aesthetic experience in which what is represented and the forms acquire an increasingly profound transversal significance as the discourse progresses; In an exercise, not at all passive, of thinking about the images, the viewer will be pushed to become a reader of them, penetrating from an exotic preciousness of the image towards a vaster and deeper understanding of the human condition and its contradictions.“.

Vazquez keep going: “The way Carax proposes for his film will be through episodes
self-contained (they all begin and end) apparently independent, only linked by a strange common thread: limousines that act as sacred demiurges, the ‘sacred engines’“.

Horacio Banega, the Argentine Merlí

Horacio Banega, the Argentine Merlí

The creator of the successful Spanish series, Héctor Lozano, confessed some time ago that he had been inspired by an Argentinean when it came to giving life (on paper) to his leading character.. “Merli” quickly became a resounding success on Spanish television, which also captivated the Argentine public.

But the triumph ofMerli” in Argentina is not only due to the impact caused by the series. According to what was reported by Lozano, writer and author of the production, its protagonist would be inspired by an Argentine teacher, the philosopher and researcher Horacio Banega..

Currently Banega teaches philosophy classes at the University of Buenos Aires, in Argentores and at the University of Quilmes, in addition to working as an actor in the off circuit.

I don’t win over teachers, much less sleep with my students’ mothers; Perhaps there may be something of Merlí in my language, in my bad mood towards bureaucracy, in some acidity and sarcasm and I imagine that in a certain provocation that I also enjoy generating for the student.“Declared Banega.
