The Casa del Menor Marco Fidel Suárez has been working on prevention and second chances for adolescents and young offenders.

According to Stefanie Escobar Jiménez, director of the Casa del Menor, there are adolescents linked to any type of deprivation sanction or in other cases with assisted surveillance.

“With these adolescents, strategies are sought and implementation of social recognition and restorative actions from the sporting, artistic, and cultural perspectives to enhance their tastes,” he confirmed.

In this way, he indicated that the entity works on program processes in barbering, carpentry and photography; the latter is being implemented with a podcast project.

“What is sought is for voices to be heard. We will continue working with them and with their family, generating processes of healing and forgiveness. Of course, discovering in them what they are good at and how we can help them,” he said.

He concluded by assuring that thanks to the prevention work carried out by different departmental entities, the entry of adolescents into the system was reduced by a considerable number.

“At this moment we have 37 teenagers, not all of them are from Boyacá, some are from Bucaramanga. “We have a specialized care center to care for between 70 and 80 adolescents, which means that it has been greatly reduced thanks to the work carried out by different entities focused on what we do and it is based on prevention,” she pointed out.
