During the night of Saturday, February 24 of this year, the artist Omar Geles arrived at the Palonegro International Airport where a van was waiting to take him to the Mulatas restaurant, located on the highway to Piedecuesta.

“He arrived at the restaurant, we shared a few drinks on the bus in which his group was traveling and he got on stage after midnight that Saturday,” said William Rueda, music entrepreneur and owner of the aforementioned nightclub.

Geles got on, sang songs of his own and gave way to another vallenato artist, Elder Dayán Díaz, son of the disappeared Diomedes Díaz Maestre with whom he spoke upon his arrival in Bucaramanga. They both agreed to sing some songs as a duet.

In the middle of the presentation of Diomedes’ son, Omar Geles, as he had not done in a long time, he took an accordion and accompanied the young singer with the chords. Among others, Elder Dayán sang La Falla Fue Tuya, a hit by Diomedes and authored by vallenato Geles. The song History was also heard, which tells the life of Omar Geles and his hard road to fame.

Livestock farming was another of the artist’s passions and other of his visits to Bucaramanga had to do with this business. “I bought fattening heifers from him and that strengthened our friendship. The closeness was so great that he baptized my business as La Casa del Vallenato,” said Rueda.

According to those close to him, from Bucaramanga he liked the fried meat and the warmth of its people. The artist was planning to return on October 18 of this year for a new musical presentation.

“He was a man of extraordinary simplicity, he was very humble. He died, one of the greatest of vallenato. I love him and admire him. I want to reopen my restaurant as a nightclub and pay tribute to him,” concluded the music businessman.
