In Casanare they warn of a wave of theft of WhatsApp accounts » PRENSA LIBRE CASANARE

A new wave of WhatsApp account thefts is causing alarm among users, criminals are taking advantage of the innocence of users and some vulnerability in the security of this application to enter the device and have access to all banking information, contacts and networks social networks, from where they impersonate their victims to request money from their contacts.

In Casanare several people have been victims this week of this type of cybercrime.

Account theft occurs in some cases when a person tries to access their WhatsApp account from a new device. The application sends a six-digit code to the registered phone number, the criminals try to access the victim’s account and then send them a message stating that they mistakenly sent a code to their number and asking them to resend it. Once the victim provides the code, she loses access to her account.

This method is replicated with the victim’s contacts, using the same message of the supposed erroneous sending of the six-digit code, thus expanding the chain of account thefts.

The main recommendation to prevent this type of fraud is not to respond to messages from anonymous or unknown sources. In addition, it is essential to activate two-step verification on WhatsApp and remain vigilant against any suspicious requests.
